Services, Fees, and Good Faith Estimate

Psychotherapy

Remote Options Monday through Thursday

In-Person on Thursdays in San Francisco

Client-centered therapy to empower you. In session, we can choose to incorporate attachment-based therapies, liberation psychology, mindfulness, and relational psychodynamics depending on what you want and need. Most of those words probably do not make much sense unless you specifically work in mental health, so we can break down what they mean in a consultation and/or at the start of working together. That way you can make a decision that makes sense for you.

Part of being trauma-informed and client-centered means that I prioritize your autonomy; I travel alongside you, rather than tell you what to do or where to go. Since needs can vary widely, what sessions look like can also be very different from person to person and can include: talking through your thoughts and emotions about a difficult situation, noticing body sensations during tough and enjoyable feelings, sharing your excitement about your latest hobby, or even listening to a song that has been stuck in your head recently.

While I have formal training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and have worked as part of a comprehensive program, full DBT is not compatible with my client-centered approach. If you are interested in therapy that has elements of DBT, we can identify aspects of the treatment that may and may not work for you and adjust accordingly.

Full fee: $200 for a 50-minute therapy hour

Music Therapy

In Person Options on Tuesdays in Berkeley

The power of words and music, integrated to help you heal and explore. Music is a traditional form of medicine that has been used for thousands of years. Western medical systems have recently begun to recognize music as potent and effective. Music can be used as a springboard for discussion or as an experience for coping and self-expression through song, sound, and movement. Many transgender folx also use music as a way to explore their voice and find what feels authentic to them. As a board-certified music therapist, I have specialized training both as a clinician and as a musician. You do not need to be a musician in order to benefit from music therapy.

Full fee: $200 for a 50-minute therapy hour

Gender Affirmation Documentation

Everyone should have access to the care that they need. Unfortunately, our current insurance and medical systems require an evaluation and letter from a mental health professional to access gender-affirming care. While some institutions require you to see one of their clinicians, others do not have an in-house option. The process mandates answers to questions that are very specific, invasive, and extensive. I do my best to reduce and minimize the barriers to gender affirmation while acknowledging my role as a gatekeeper. I adhere to the WPATH standards of care in documentation and can also work with insurance requirements specific to you. I offer this service regardless if you are seeking ongoing therapy or a singular session.

Pricing varies depending on socioeconomic status.

Specialized Care Management

Nuanced care for LGBTQIA2S+ folx. Case management acknowledges that many problems are caused by external forces outside of your full control. (i.e. You are not the problem.) It focuses more on advocacy, how to do life while living in an oppressive society, and “adulting” in ways that work for you. Most of case management is navigating systems including housing, medical and mental healthcare, financial systems, and various government agencies. It also means strengthening connections within your community.

You get to decide what is important to you and what your needs are. If you aren’t sure what you want, we can figure it out together.

My expertise and experience as a trans social worker means that I can:

  • More easily access providers to help you get services (ex/ get a doctor on the phone)

  • Educate others so you don’t have to

  • Provide coaching around skills you want to learn, including decision-making skills, self-advocacy, and finding alternatives when systems fail

  • Draw on familiarity with existing facilities and their level of competence in providing supportive care for queer, transgender, and gender-expansive folx

  • Use my knowledge base and network to learn about processes and systems so we can figure out next steps

  • Identify previously unknown organizations and providers who are more likely to be truly trans-affirming

  • Predict and help prepare for certain barriers in gender-affirming care

  • Utilize an extensive capacity to advocate for LGBTQIA2S+ people

While people have a range of circumstances and needs, most people cannot afford private case management. I offer a sliding scale in hopes to make this service more accessible. We can always discuss fees, how they feel, and make adjustments up or down when situations change.

Full fee: $225 per hour, rounded to the nearest 15 minutes

Sliding scale available

Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call  (800) 368-1019.
